Institute for Educational Policy - Developing a Guide for the Teacher for the Music Schools

Abstract

The Teacher’s Guide for the course “History of Music” in the first grade of the General Music Lyceum was written for the Institute for Educational Policy, within the framework of the new Curriculum for Music Schools (2015). The first part proposes student-centred approaches (experiential, cross-curricular and collaborative learning, differentiated instruction, new technologies) and methods of assessment. The second contains seven teaching scenarios. Among others, Tassos Kolydas developed scenarios for teaching the history of modern Greek art music. The first, on the Ionian School, makes use of the Olympic Hymn by Spyridon Samaras and the Hymn to Liberty. The second, on the general characteristics of the National School, traces the transition from Ionian to Athenian musical life and concludes with active listening to Petros Petridis’s Klephtic Dances.
