The study examines the repertoire of the New York Philharmonic under Dimitri Mitropoulos, based on the orchestra’s digitised archive of programmes. The research covers the period 1928–2009: 8,155 programmes were processed for the annual number of concerts, and the benchmark is the conductors who held a leading position with the orchestra, from Toscanini to Maazel. Mitropoulos conducted 504 programmes in 684 concerts. He had the lowest rate of programme repetition, on average 1.36 times per programme, and the largest number of composers in his repertoire, with many works by contemporary composers. The data also show that he did not perform Mahler more often than other music directors, and that his programmes included seven works by Greek composers.
