The paper proposes the Parataxis methodological framework for analysing instrumental folk music that follows the technique of parataxis. It starts from three questions: how one can understand a ‘flowing’ music, re-created each time it is played; what information one can obtain from an informant who may lack the linguistic codes to describe their music; and whether an analytical tool can act as a ‘bridge’ between the scholar and the folk musician. At this stage the relational database and the web application are described as a plan, and the example analysed is a live recording of a Páno Chorós dance from Olymbos, Karpathos.
Presentation. A later version of the work was published in the Journal of Interdisciplinary Music Studies (2010).
