Manos Hadjidakis: Birds

The review concerns the ballet “The Birds” to music by Manos Hadjidakis and choreography by Karole Armitage, with the orchestra, chorus and ballet of the Greek National Opera at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus (performance of 27 July 2000). It traces the history of the music back to the Art Theatre production of 1959, and closes with a critique of the organiser, the Hellenic Festival, which leaves out contemporary Greek art music.
