The lecture examines works for guitar by Greek composers inspired by traditional music, in the first period of the classical guitar in Greece, from the end of the war to the 1960s. It analyses “Sousta” and “Tsamikos” from the Greek Dances of Dimitri Fampas and presents the “Kefalonian Suite” of Gerassimos Miliaressis. These works, usually placed at the end of programmes, bridged the musical experience of the popular audience and the repertoire of the classical guitar.
Presentation. The lecture was given in November 2000 at the 2nd Musicological Symposium on Andros. Vasilis Giotis performed the “Kefalonian Suite” and Greek Dance No. 5 on the guitar.
