Dimitri Mitropoulos (1896-1960): fifty years later

The volume collects the proceedings of the conference “Dimitri Mitropoulos (1896-1960): fifty years later”, held on 12 and 13 November 2010 in the “Dimitri Mitropoulos” Hall of the Athens Concert Hall, as part of the events marking 50 years since his death. The conference was co-organised by the Athens Concert Hall, the Music Library of Greece “Lilian Voudouri” and the journals Musicology and Polyphonia. The 24 papers examine Mitropoulos as a composer, with analyses of specific works, as a conductor and as a pianist, as well as the stance of criticism towards Mitropoulos and his own stance towards criticism. Among them is Tassos Kolydas’s paper on the repertoire of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. The publication was funded by the Ionian University, and the volume was presented at the Athens Concert Hall on 27 March 2012.
