Participation in the 18th Interdepartmental Musicological Conference (Arta)

On Sunday 1 November I will present the paper The Music Encoding Initiative (MEI) standard as a research tool in musicology: a case study with the digital critical edition of Mikis Theodorakis’s Sonatina for piano (1955) at the 18th Interdepartmental Musicological Conference. The conference is organised by the Department of Music Studies of the University of Ioannina under the auspices of the Hellenic Musicological Society, in Arta, from 30 October to 1 November 2026, on the theme “Contemporary music creation, tradition and renewal”.

The paper looks at the open MEI standard as a research tool: the same encoded file can feed a critical edition, an analytical description, and print and online publication. The case study is the digital critical edition of Theodorakis’s Sonatina for piano. The paper was prepared in collaboration with Timotheos Kandylis.
