International Conference "Dimitris Mitropoulos (1896-1960)", the Athens Concert Hall, Athens, November 2010
Title

The repertory of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Dimitri Mitropoulos

Dimitri Mitropoulo's collaboration with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra was without doubt very important during his career as a conductor. Selecting and placing works in the program of each concert was for Mitropoulo an important medium towards the realization of his artistic vision. Recently the archive of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra was made available to the public. The archive includes all the concerts that took place conducted by Mitropoulos. Using these data the author attempts a review of Mitropoulo's attitude as a conductor, completing what has been said about his repertory and presenting new data generated by data mining. Methods of description and exploratory analysis of data are used to derive trends, aggregate data, and extract new knowledge. The conclusions are examined in relation to the opinions expressed by Mitropoulos and the criticism he received concerning the configuration of the programs and his efforts to promote works that were not established in the concert halls.
